Quotations
Solution
Your Mellinger World Trade Plan gives a complete discussion about C.I.F., F.O.B. or C. & F. quotations. Study them carefully. Beginners favor C.I.F. quotations because it relieves them from effort of estimating costs of insurance and freight when computing their landed cost on a product to be imported. However, this may not be the best quotation to produce the lowest possible landed cost. The foreign supplier, when quoting C.I.F., must add the cost of insurance and freight. Naturally before the occurrence of the shipment, these two elements must be estimated. In order to insure the estimate is not too low, a cushion will be added for insurance and freight which results in raising them. Best, request your quotation F.O.B. Your Customs Broker can direct you to an insurance source and take care of paying the freight collect shipment. This should save you money.
